2022NEVER EVER is a film work that follows a fictional television presenter / YouTuber and their crew as they travel across Northumberland, apparently shooting some kind of documentary about the region’s food and farms. The only problem is they’re not very good. Less Countryfile... more Country-fail. The presenter’s complete confusion in the face of almost everything they encounter offers both a comedic and poignant space for reflection, an invitation to think twice about some of the language, values and ideas commonly associated with contemporary issues of environment and technology.
As the film progresses, we start to see behind the scenes of our presenter’s world (both literally and metaphorically). A more reflective side to this slightly hapless character starts to become visible, a deeply sensitive and critical mind anxiously considering the hidden complexities of the words, politics, and places they encounter on their journey.
NEVER EVER was developed by Artist-Duo Durty Beanz during a 6-month residency with The Maltings Art Centre and Newcastle University’s Institute for Creative Arts Practice and Centre for Rural Economy. The film stars Elina Bry in the lead role.

ELINA BRY is French/Finnish, Glasgow based multidisciplinary artist and award-winning filmmaker. They work across video, storytelling and live performance, and is interested at listening to and re-staging the malfunctions of the human body. They are curious about the body as a sentient arena; as a responsive tool and as a protagonist of an everyday drama. By that, they investigate the known, model it and work in collaboration with the instability of their body. It is essential that they don't cause any harm as they want to challenge their body with the everyday, in order to give a stage and witness what is already there.
The thematic undercurrents of ecology and slow travel prominently weave through their artistic endeavours. Through their multidisciplinary approach, they seek to unravel the nuanced interplay between the human form and its environment, exploring the intricacies of the body while maintaining a conscientious connection to ecological and sustainable principles.
